The XCellRAN™ product suite is a virtualized, elastically scalable software as a service solution that automates the deployment and operation of Carrier Wi-Fi, LTE small cells and HetNets of Wi-Fi and LTE. The system integrates Radio Resource Management and Self Organization Networks (SON) with automated provisioning and fault recovery to deliver dramatic Quality of Experience (QoE) improvement. XCellRAN is a common solution that spans across different deployment types – residential, hotspots, outdoor, venues and enterprises – and can integrate with existing systems or operate completely self-contained. The system enables rapid integration of new equipment by leveraging standard interfaces and automated code generation tools. Finally, the cloud-style architecture and technology (e.g. no-SQL databases) enables rapid inclusion of new features and extensions to meet a customer’s specific needs.

The XCellRAN platform includes a number of key common features that stretch across

Elastic Scalability

Without scalability the benefits of automation and optimization are lost. That is why XCellRAN was built from day-one using best-in-class cloud techniques and tools. However it’s not just about supporting millions of access points or small cells – it’s also about being able to scale elastically. Elasticity provides capacity where and when needed, which is critical to service reliability and cost-effective scaling. Just as important is the ability to scale down to meet the needs of smaller deployments or to free up resources when less are needed. XCellRAN does all of this automatically based on configurations provided by the operator (e.g. deployment locations and subzones, type, expected size, etc.). Many solutions claim to be “cloud-ready” (i.e. running in a virtual machine) – XCellRAN was born and bred in the cloud.

Scalability is not just about supporting lots and lots of access points and related transactions (though that’s important too) – but being able to do so seamlessly, across geographies and cost effectively.

Dashboards have become a critical tool to enable quick visibility and understanding of system operations. XCellRAN features customizable dashboards at each level in the network. These levels include the overall network, specific network locations (i.e. cluster) and the individual equipment (Wi-Fi AP or Small Cell).

MAPPING AND VISUALIZATION

The XCellRAN system captures a multitude of critical data regarding equipment health, radio conditions and usage of the network. To make the most of the massive amount of data catalogued in the system a robust analytics and reporting capability is provided. Additionally, mechanisms are available to easily export data from the XCellRAN database for offline processing in 3rd party analytics and reporting tools.

Secure Operations

No system can be deployed without the proper consideration for security. The XCellRAN system provides a secure end-to-end solution. This includes:

1. Browser Security including user authentication, role level access control and HTTPs with SSL

2. Intra-Module Security with communication between different applications within XCellRAN using a secure message infrastructure to enable physical separation of VMs without security concerns

3. Cloud Server to AP / Small Cell Security featuring TLS / SSL and X.509 certificates
